I'm in the process of upgrading my PC and am looking to move from an AM4 to an AM5 socket. I've got a budget that's flexible, but I'm not looking to overspend. I'm currently debating between the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Ryzen 7 9700X. I'm also open to suggestions for better alternatives since I have a 4070 Super GPU.

If you're focusing on gaming, the Ryzen 7 7700X is probably your best bet. The 9700X isn't a significant upgrade over the 7700X. If you're thinking about really stepping up, the 7800X3D or 9800X3D are worth a look, though availability might be an issue. There's also the 7600X3D if you see it around.
The 9700X does have a slight edge over the 7700X in terms of efficiency. Just make sure to weigh the price difference.
Check out this review on TechPowerUp—it has charts that compare various recent-gen CPUs. It's a good resource to see how they stack up performance-wise against each other, based on what you need.
Honestly, the price gap between the two is pretty small—just $14 AUD more for the 9700X. It seems like a no-brainer to go for it!
