I'm building a new computer and I'm curious about using a USB4 port for video output. I found several AM5 motherboards with USB4 ports, but I'm unclear on how video output works when a dedicated graphics card (GPU) is installed. I know that when a GPU is in place, the motherboard's HDMI and DisplayPort outputs aren't usable, but how does this relate to USB4 video outputs? I've heard that some motherboards might support a tunneling feature from the GPU to USB4 for video, but I'm not sure how to verify this or how it actually works. Can someone explain how I can set up USB4 for video output from my graphics card? Specifically, I've been considering the ASUS Prime X870-P WiFi motherboard for my build.

You can actually use both the integrated GPU (iGPU) and the dedicated GPU (dGPU) simultaneously on AM5 boards. Just remember to enable the iGPU in the BIOS since it might be turned off when a dGPU is installed. According to the specs of the X870-P, it should support video output through its two USB-C ports, so you’re in luck!
So does that mean playing demanding games will be a challenge using USB4? Because I’d be relying on the iGPU for those outputs.
