Advice on my first gaming and content-creation PC build

I'm building my first desktop after using a gaming laptop and would appreciate a second opinion before buying the parts. It will mainly be used for gaming, but I also want to learn game development, digital art, and 3D modeling.

I'm deciding between an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and a GIGABYTE RX 9060 XT Gaming OC 16GB. The RX 9060 XT has twice the VRAM and costs about €130 less where I live, so it seems like the obvious choice. However, I'm wondering whether Nvidia's CUDA support, ray-tracing tools, or software compatibility would make the RTX 5060 Ti more useful for game development, 3D work, or eventually training a small machine-learning model.

For the processor, I'm choosing between the Ryzen 5 7500X3D and Ryzen 7 7700X. I'm leaning toward the 7700X because it is cheaper locally and has more cores, which seems better for workloads beyond gaming. Is the 7500X3D still worth considering?

I'm also unsure about the power supply. Would a 750W Cooler Master Elite Gold be sensible, or would a good 650W unit be enough? My current parts list is:

- SSD: ADATA Legend 860 2TB
- RAM: Patriot Viper Venom 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30
- Motherboard: MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi 6E
- CPU cooler: Arctic Freezer 36
- Case: Cooler Master Elite 690 Wood Black

The Ryzen 7 7700X makes sense here because its extra cores should help with development, rendering, and other workloads. The RX 9060 XT 16GB also offers substantially more VRAM for less money, so it is a strong value choice for gaming and general creative work. Nvidia can still be preferable if you specifically need CUDA, certain ray-tracing tools, or software with better Nvidia support, but that may not matter for your current plans.

That’s helpful. My game-development experience is currently limited to text adventures and C++, and machine learning is only a possible future project, so I’m finding it difficult to justify paying more for Nvidia unless the price changes.

Consider checking the SSD before finalizing the build. The ADATA Legend 860 may use QLC flash, which can have lower endurance and slower sustained performance than a comparable TLC drive. If the price difference is reasonable, look for a TLC-based 2TB model such as a Patriot P400 Lite, Kioxia Exceria Plus, or another well-reviewed TLC drive. It can still work as a general game-storage drive, but a better TLC option may be preferable for an operating-system or project drive.

A 750W unit gives the system useful headroom for transient power spikes and future upgrades. The capacity itself is more than enough; the important thing is choosing a reputable, well-reviewed model rather than judging only by the brand name. A Cooler Master unit may be fine if that specific model has good testing results, but a quality Seasonic or similarly reputable alternative would also be worth considering. A good 650W PSU could run this system, though 750W provides more breathing room.

I was unsure because I found conflicting reports about Cooler Master power supplies, including claims that some models fail to deliver their advertised output. I’ll compare reviews for the exact model instead of relying on the brand alone.

For gaming, the 7500X3D could offer better gaming performance, but the 7700X is the more balanced choice when you also plan to compile code, create art, model in 3D, and run other multi-core workloads. Since it is cheaper where you live, the 7700X seems like the practical pick unless gaming performance is your only priority.
