Are 85–93°C CPU temperatures normal with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

I recently built a PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon 9070 XT, and a 360mm Lian Li HydroShift 2 AIO inside a Lian Li O11D EVO RGB. The case has 360mm reverse-blade fans on the side and bottom, with regular fans on top exhausting air. While playing story-driven games, the CPU reaches around 85–93°C, and it usually sits at 55–60°C while idle or downloading a game in Windows. BIOS and chipset updates are already installed. Are these temperatures expected, or should I check the cooler installation, pump, or fan settings?

The 9800X3D is designed to boost aggressively until it reaches its temperature target, so brief spikes into the mid-to-high 80s can be normal during gaming. However, 55–60°C at idle is a little warm for a 360mm AIO, though downloading or other background activity can raise it. Check that the pump is running at the expected speed, the fans are responding to CPU temperature, and the cooler block is mounted evenly with no protective film left on the cold plate.

Since the system is only two days old, I’d also confirm the radiator and pump hoses aren’t restricted and that the AIO is connected to the correct pump header. If temperatures remain near 93°C under normal gaming loads, checking mounting pressure and thermal paste would be worthwhile.

Your case and fan layout should provide plenty of airflow, and the BIOS and chipset updates rule out one common issue. Monitor temperatures along with CPU package power and clock speeds using a hardware monitor. If the CPU is only briefly touching the low 90s and stays stable without throttling, it may simply be normal boost behavior. Sustained temperatures in the 90s, unusual pump noise, or temperatures that climb rapidly at low load would point more toward an installation, pump, or fan-curve problem.
