Are the September 2026 Windows Server out-of-band patches still causing problems?

Has anyone else continued seeing issues after installing the September 2026 out-of-band updates for Windows Server? In my environment, RDP still fails intermittently, some servers require two or three reboots before becoming stable, and a few virtual machines are losing their assigned IP addresses at the hypervisor layer. How widespread are these problems, and have you found any reliable workarounds? This month's patching has been unusually rough.

We’re still seeing very similar problems. The updates affected machine trust and DNS on our domain controllers, and RDP fails randomly on some systems. A few servers took an extremely long time to patch or became stuck on the blue “do not turn off your computer” screen. We rolled the updates back on critical domain controller and DNS servers because they were too unstable, and we’re waiting to see whether the next patch cycle is safer.

One server wouldn’t install the update and then took an unreasonable amount of time to boot. On another server, installing the out-of-band update resolved the RDP problem, so the results have been inconsistent.

We haven’t encountered any of these issues so far. Our September out-of-band deployments have completed normally.

The affected systems in our environment include Windows Server 2019, 2022, and 2025, so it doesn’t appear limited to one server version.
