I'm putting together my first desktop after using a 2017 Dell G7 laptop and want to catch any compatibility or setup problems before ordering everything. The main use will be Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 at high settings with add-on scenery, along with other AAA and indie games.
My planned parts are:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: PNY RTX 5070 Ti ARGB OC 16GB
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi
- Memory: Silicon Power 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
- Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
- Power supply: MSI MPG A850G PCIe 5 850W
- Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360
- Case: NZXT H9 Flow RGB+
Are there any CPU or BIOS compatibility concerns, clearance issues, power-supply limitations, or RGB and fan-header problems I should know about with this combination?

You could consider a newer B850 motherboard with a PCIe 5.0 graphics slot, especially for a high-end build. That said, the B650 board should still run this hardware, and the real-world gaming difference from the newer GPU slot is generally very small for this setup. Keeping the B650 is reasonable if it has the features and connectivity you need.
The parts list looks broadly compatible, and a parts-checking site is useful for catching obvious conflicts. The main thing to verify is the motherboard BIOS: depending on when it was manufactured, the B650 board may need a UEFI update before it recognizes the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Check whether the board has BIOS FlashBack, and update it before installing the CPU if necessary.
I already ran the list through a compatibility checker and it didn’t show any warnings, but I’ll definitely check the board’s BIOS version and FlashBack instructions before assembling it.
That was my thinking too. I looked into the newer platform, but the expected performance difference seemed minimal, so I’d rather save the money unless there’s another important feature I’m missing.
