My ASUS TUF FX505 suddenly stopped turning on properly. When I press the power button, the keyboard or screen backlight flashes for about a second and then shuts off. The fan never starts, and plugging in the charger doesn't change anything. The charging indicator is lit, but the power indicator never comes on. What should I check to figure out whether this is a battery, charger, or hardware problem?

Since the charging light works but the power light and fan never start, this is probably happening before the laptop reaches the boot stage. Try a power reset: unplug the charger, disconnect any USB devices, hold the power button for 30–60 seconds, then reconnect the charger and try again. If the battery is removable, test with it disconnected and the charger connected. If it still only flashes the backlight, the problem may be with the battery, charging circuit, motherboard, or another internal component.

I’ll try the power reset and test it with the charger connected. The battery isn’t easily removable, so I may need to open the back cover if that doesn’t help.
