Best €400 Monitor Upgrade for X-Plane 12 and Competitive FPS Gaming?

I'm looking to replace my BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P, a 24-inch 1080p 144Hz TN monitor, with a much more noticeable upgrade for around €400 maximum. My PC has a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 5090 32GB, and 48GB of DDR5-6400 memory. I'd prefer a 27-inch display, though I'm open to other sizes or formats if they make more sense.

Gaming makes up about 85% of my usage. I mainly play X-Plane 12, including long-haul flights where image quality, contrast, and dark-scene performance matter. I also play competitive games such as CS2 and Battlefield, so I need low input lag, high refresh rate, quick response times, clear motion, and minimal ghosting or overshoot. I also play League of Legends, watch movies, and do some programming.

My current monitor produces a halo or trailing effect around bright moving objects, especially against dark backgrounds. I'm not sure whether this is overshoot, ghosting, or another response-time issue, but I would like to avoid repeating it. I'm hoping for a major improvement in sharpness, contrast, black levels, daytime brightness, HDR, and overall motion handling at 1440p.

I'm open to fast IPS, VA, Mini-LED, or OLED. OLED concerns me somewhat because X-Plane can display static cockpit elements for several hours, although I'm willing to consider it if the image-quality improvement is substantial and modern protection features make the risk reasonable. What monitor technology and specific models would make the most sense for this hardware, budget, and mix of flight simulation and competitive gaming?

OLED prices have fallen considerably, and some 27-inch 1440p OLED monitors can now approach the €400 range during sales. For flight simulation and FPS games, OLED gives you perfect blacks, excellent HDR potential, and extremely fast pixel response, so it would be a dramatic image-quality upgrade.

The trade-off is that several hours of cockpit instruments and other static interface elements may increase burn-in risk over time. Pixel shifting, panel refresh routines, and a sensible power-saving setup help, but they do not eliminate the risk. I would only choose OLED if you are comfortable treating it as a sale-priced option with that limitation. Otherwise, a well-reviewed fast IPS display is the more practical long-term choice.

I’m willing to consider OLED if a suitable model is genuinely available near €400, but I’d prefer a specific recommendation and a realistic assessment of how much the static cockpit usage matters.

If the halo appears mainly during motion, it is probably overdrive overshoot rather than a problem with the graphics card. Try reducing the monitor’s response-time setting first; that often removes the bright outline, although it can make ordinary ghosting more visible.

For roughly €400, a good 27-inch 1440p fast IPS monitor is the safest recommendation. It should be a very large upgrade from a 1080p TN panel, with better clarity, viewing angles, and generally more consistent motion. Keep the overdrive setting at a moderate level instead of the fastest mode. Cheap VA models can offer better contrast, but dark-scene transitions may produce black smearing, which could be especially distracting during night flights. OLED would be ideal for contrast and response time, but pricing and burn-in concerns still need to be weighed carefully for long sessions with static cockpit elements.

That makes sense. I’m mainly trying to avoid buying something that looks impressive on paper but has obvious smearing or overshoot in dark scenes. Are there any particular 27-inch 1440p models you would shortlist?
