Bluetooth Disappears After My Windows 11 Laptop Gets Hot

For about six months, Bluetooth on my laptop has been randomly failing after extended use or when the computer gets hot. My devices disconnect, even though Windows still says they are connected. The Bluetooth option disappears from the quick settings, and Settings may still show Bluetooth as enabled, but connection attempts immediately cancel. Turning Bluetooth off can also leave the option greyed out. A full restart fixes it temporarily, but that is disruptive during calls or long gaming sessions. Wi-Fi continues working, and I have already tried resetting the device settings and several other fixes. What could be causing this, and how can I troubleshoot or fix it?

I would start by checking Event Viewer and Device Manager immediately after the failure. Look for the Bluetooth adapter disappearing, a driver error, or a power-management reset. You can also remove the adapter in Device Manager, restart, and reinstall the latest HP-provided driver. If the adapter only recovers after a reboot and the issue follows high temperatures, that points more toward hardware or thermal trouble than a simple pairing problem.

If the failure consistently happens after the laptop heats up, the internal Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card could be overheating or starting to fail. In many laptops both radios are on the same replaceable card, so replacing it with a model compatible with that laptop may help. A small USB Bluetooth adapter is another workaround if the internal card is difficult to replace. Improving airflow, using a cooling stand, and enabling an always-on fan option in the BIOS may also reduce the failures.

It is an HP laptop, so I will check its support tools, BIOS diagnostics, and compatible replacement cards.

Since Wi-Fi still works, try updating the chipset, Bluetooth, and wireless drivers from the laptop manufacturer rather than relying only on Windows Update. The manufacturer's support app may also provide hardware diagnostics, and many laptops include additional tests in the UEFI/BIOS.
