Can I Get a Refund After Forgetting to Cancel a Free Trial?

I signed up for a 10-day free trial of Simply Sing and forgot to turn off auto-renewal. Apple has now charged me $100 for the annual subscription, even though I do not plan to use the service. I submitted Apple's refund request twice, but both requests were denied. Is there any legitimate way to appeal the decision or recover the money, or have I exhausted my options?

Apple’s terms generally treat completed purchases as final, except in situations such as technical problems or other specific circumstances. Refunds for subscriptions are discretionary, so another appeal could be attempted through Apple Support, but there is no guarantee they will reverse a charge that resulted from a missed cancellation.

You could ask your card issuer about disputing the transaction, but a chargeback may not succeed if the subscription terms clearly disclosed the automatic renewal and the payment was authorized. It could also create complications with your Apple account, so contacting Apple Support first is the safer route.

Free trials generally include an agreement that the subscription will renew automatically unless it is canceled before the trial ends. Since the charge was processed under those terms and Apple already denied the refund requests, there may not be much else they are required to do. Unfortunately, this may end up being an expensive reminder to cancel trials promptly.

For future trials, cancel the subscription immediately after signing up. You should normally keep access for the rest of the trial period, while preventing the paid renewal. It is also worth checking the subscription list and setting a calendar reminder before the trial expires.
