I'm troubleshooting an arc-fault breaker that trips intermittently and want to rule out my PC as a possible cause. Recent electrical work required two standard breakers to be replaced with arc-fault breakers, and I bought another RM850x to test whether the power supply is involved. Can I leave the current modular cables connected and swap only the PSU, or should I replace the cables too?

Check the label or the manufacturer’s compatibility chart for both units. If they’re the same RM850x generation and both specify Type 4 cables, reusing the cables is normally acceptable. If there’s any doubt, use the cables that came with the replacement PSU.
An arc-fault breaker can be sensitive to certain loads, but don’t replace it with a standard breaker yourself. Since this involves household wiring and recently changed protection, have the electrician investigate the circuit, outlet, grounding, and breaker. Testing the PC with the replacement PSU is reasonable, but it may not identify the actual electrical fault.
Corsair RM850x units that use Type 4 modular cables can generally use the same cables, so a like-for-like replacement should be fine. Still, verify the exact model and cable type before powering anything on—modular PSU cables aren’t universally interchangeable.

It’s my house, and the arc-fault breakers were installed as part of recent work to meet current code. I’ve been troubleshooting it with the electrician, so swapping the PSU is my last test before having them come back out.
