Can I run a local AI on my Lenovo Yoga laptop?

I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga for university and would like to run an AI model locally on it, if that's practical. I'm not very experienced with computer hardware or AI software, so I'd appreciate a beginner-friendly explanation of what I need to check—especially the exact Yoga model, RAM, processor, and graphics card—and what kind of performance I can realistically expect.

It depends heavily on the exact Yoga model. If it only has integrated graphics, a local AI model may run very slowly and be limited to smaller models. A Yoga Pro configuration with a dedicated NVIDIA GPU would be much more suitable because the GPU can accelerate the model.

So the first step is checking whether my laptop has a dedicated graphics card, rather than just assuming all Yoga models are the same?

You can try an app such as LM Studio, which provides a relatively beginner-friendly way to download and run local language models. However, laptops with integrated graphics and modest memory are often restricted to small, heavily compressed models, and responses may be slow. Check the full model name, RAM, processor, and GPU before choosing what to install.
