After roughly nine years since my last major upgrade, I'm planning a high-end PC intended to last for many years. There isn't a strict budget, and this configuration comes to about £4,000.
I'll mainly use it for lightweight local LLM experimentation, AAA gaming, and programming with many IDEs, tools, and compilers open simultaneously. I've mostly chosen Corsair components because their products have treated me well over the years, along with Samsung storage and an AMD processor. I also like the clean appearance of hidden-cable motherboards, and one of the fan kits includes LX120-R fans for a more attractive exhaust setup.
The proposed build uses a Ryzen 7 9850X3D, Corsair 360 mm liquid cooling, a Gigabyte X870 AORUS STEALTH motherboard, 64 GB of DDR5-6000 memory made from two separate 32 GB kits, two 1 TB PCIe 5.0 Samsung SSDs, an RTX 5080, a Corsair FRAME 5000D case, a 1000 W Corsair power supply, and six Corsair LINK fans.
I'd appreciate feedback on compatibility, whether any component is poorly matched, and whether I'm spending too much in areas that won't make a meaningful difference. I know this may not be the ideal time to buy, but I'm willing to accept that if the system will serve me well for a long time.

The Corsair liquid cooler is a reasonable choice if you value staying within one ecosystem and avoiding the complexity of a custom loop. There may be cheaper or similarly effective coolers, but the practical performance difference probably won’t be important in a build at this price. Just make sure the radiator placement, pump orientation, and case clearance work with the motherboard and graphics card.
You could save some money by switching from the X870 AORUS STEALTH to the regular X870 AORUS Elite WiFi 7. For most users, you won’t lose much functionality, and the cheaper board should handle the same processor and memory setup. The main reason to keep the STEALTH would be the rear-connector design and the cleaner cable routing it enables.
The biggest concern is the memory configuration. Four DDR5 DIMMs can be difficult for the memory controller to run reliably at high speeds, especially on AM5. I’d use one matched 2 x 32 GB DDR5-6000 kit instead of combining two 2 x 16 GB kits. That gives you the same capacity with a better chance of running at the advertised settings.
AMD platforms generally prefer leaving two slots empty. Four populated slots are more likely to require lower speeds or manual tuning, so a single 2 x 32 GB kit is the safer choice.
Would dummy or decorative DIMMs be a reasonable way to fill the empty slots for appearance? And would the real modules still need to be installed in the recommended slots rather than next to each other?
The overall parts list is aimed at longevity, but consider whether waiting is an option. High-end memory, storage, and graphics cards have been unusually expensive because of demand from AI and data-centre buyers. Prices may become more reasonable over the next year or two, so delaying could provide better value unless you need the system now.

I originally considered the Elite, but chose the STEALTH after discovering rear-connector motherboards. Would the standard board still allow a similarly tidy build, or is that mostly dependent on careful cable management?
