If technology let us manipulate matter at the most fundamental level, would we theoretically be able to manufacture any object we wanted? For example, could we create gold, food, tools, or even complex structures from basic materials, assuming we had enough energy and an accurate blueprint?

In principle, yes—if “control” includes arranging atoms, electrons, and possibly even subatomic particles with extreme precision. You would still need the right raw materials, an enormous amount of energy, and a complete design describing where every component belongs. For anything larger than a tiny object, the information and error-correction requirements would be enormous.
The answer is theoretically possible, but “anything” needs qualifications. Conservation laws still apply, the required elements must be available or produced, and some objects would need extreme temperatures, pressures, or complex biological processes. Having perfect matter control would make manufacturing radically easier, but it would not eliminate physics or energy costs.
A universal fabricator would need something like a molecular-scale printer. It might be more practical to manufacture standardized materials or components than to assemble every object atom by atom. A small object could require a huge blueprint, and defects would have to be detected and corrected as it was built.
Basic versions of this idea already exist in chemistry and 3D printing. We can rearrange atoms into different molecules and build objects layer by layer, but we cannot freely create any element or structure. Making gold from another element would require nuclear reactions rather than ordinary chemistry, and it would likely be far too expensive to do at scale.
So the real limitation is not whether matter can be rearranged, but how precisely and economically we can control the process.
