How can an indie developer get access to GPT 5.6 Luna?

I'm an indie developer preparing to launch an AI chat app. I initially built it with Haiku because of the lower cost, but I wanted to compare its performance with GPT 5.6 Luna. Unfortunately, my new cloud account is restricted from using the more expensive GPT 5.6 models.

Luna is now reportedly about five times cheaper than its original release price and roughly four times cheaper than Haiku, which I can already access. I'd like to switch to Luna before launching, so I've opened a support case. I've also heard that community moderators might be able to help escalate access requests.

Can moderators actually help with this kind of approval? If not, are there any practical steps that could improve my chances of getting access, especially as an indie developer using a new basic-tier account?

You could consider accessing the model through the provider directly or through an aggregation service, where available. That may be faster than waiting for access on your cloud account, although it would mean managing billing and infrastructure outside your current setup.

I’d prefer to keep everything under one cloud provider, partly because I have about $200 in credits there. As an indie developer, using those credits during testing and the initial release would make a big difference since model usage is my largest expense.

A moderator confirmed that they don’t have the ability to grant or accelerate model access. It sounds like the best route is still the normal support process rather than relying on community escalation.

That clears things up—thanks. I had seen someone suggest otherwise, so I wanted to verify whether moderators had any special escalation path.

If you have an account team or an ISV representative, they may be able to open an internal request in addition to your support ticket. In my experience, approval went more smoothly after providing concrete business justification, such as customers or active opportunities that depend on the model. Larger enterprise accounts may receive access more automatically.

I’m on a basic plan with a brand-new account, so I don’t think I have access to an account team. I’ll still include as much information as possible about my planned launch and expected usage in the support case.
