How can I clear the chassis-intrusion password on an Intel DX79TO?

I bought a batch of fifteen used computers for spare parts and found one with an Intel DX79TO motherboard, an i7-3820, eight RAM slots, and 64GB of DDR3. I added a GTX 1070 and tried to bring it back to life, but it stops before booting with the message: "The chassis was opened. Please enter password."

I understand that chassis intrusion can be useful in business environments, but I have no idea what password the previous owner configured. I already tried resetting the CMOS and using the password-clear jumper, but the system still asks for the intrusion password before I can reach the BIOS or maintenance menu. Is there a known recovery procedure, default password, or way to reflash the BIOS on an Intel DX79TO to remove it?

The BIOS password and the chassis-intrusion password are separate settings. The DX79TO manual describes using a jumper to enter a maintenance menu and clear passwords, but the frustrating part is that this board may require the intrusion password even to reach that menu. A normal CMOS reset therefore may not be enough.

Chassis intrusion is mainly an anti-tampering feature for offices and other managed environments. It can alert someone when a case has been opened, such as when employees removed RAM or other components, but it is definitely inconvenient when the machine is bought second-hand without the original password.

If the jumper procedure and battery removal do not work, the remaining practical option may be externally programming or reflashing the BIOS chip. That could wipe the stored password settings, although it requires the correct firmware and a compatible programmer, so there is some risk of bricking the board.

A screwdriver across the power pins or clearing the CMOS will not bypass this prompt if it appears before the BIOS. It is worth checking Intel’s documentation for the exact board revision and any factory or recovery-password procedure, but there may not be a universal default password.
