How Can I Safely Remove a Stuck SATA Power Connector?

I'm replacing the power supply in my sister's PC to support a new graphics card, but one of the SATA power connectors is stuck on the main SSD. I've tried pulling it with reasonable force, but I can't see a release button or latch and I'm worried about damaging the drive or connector. What's the safest way to remove it?

That connector doesn’t appear to have a release button. Pull the drive out of the case or remove its mounting screws first so you can hold it securely and get better leverage. Then gently wiggle the plug from side to side while pulling it straight out. Avoid rocking it up and down, since that can damage the drive’s connector.

These SATA power plugs can be surprisingly tight even without a latch. Hold the SSD or drive firmly, grip the plastic connector rather than the cable, and work it loose with a small side-to-side motion. Take your time so the socket on the drive doesn’t get pulled away from the circuit board.

Since you’re replacing the PSU anyway, you only need to preserve the SSD—not the old cable. Make sure the computer is completely unplugged, remove the drive if possible, and inspect the connector with a flashlight. Don’t yank on the wires, and never reuse modular PSU cables from the old power supply with the new one; use only the cables supplied with the replacement PSU.

It’s the main drive, so I was nervous about pulling harder. Removing the SSD from the case first sounds like the safest option.
