My iPad keeps answering some of the calls and receiving text messages that come to my iPhone, especially overnight while I'm asleep. I've already changed several settings related to call forwarding, text-message forwarding, and message reception on both devices, but the iPad still occasionally takes over. What settings should I check to stop this completely?

On the iPhone, check Settings > Apps > Phone > Calls on Other Devices and switch off the iPad. Then go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and disable the iPad there as well. Those are the main controls for sharing calls and SMS messages between the devices.
It helps to list exactly which settings have been changed, since calls and different types of messages can be controlled separately. Check call handoff, calls on other devices, text-message forwarding, iMessage account settings, and FaceTime on both devices. If the iPad is still receiving anything after those are disabled, signing out of Messages and FaceTime on the iPad—or removing its access from the Apple Account device list—may be necessary.
I’ve made so many changes involving forwarded messages and call reception that I don’t remember every setting I changed. I’ll review each category separately rather than assuming one switch controls everything.

Thanks, but both of those options were already turned off. I’ve changed several related settings on both devices, so I may need to go through them again carefully.
