I'm completely new to building PCs and am putting together a system mainly for 3D rendering and game development. My current parts list includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, 360 mm liquid cooler, MSI Z890 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, 64 GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, a 2 TB WD Black SN7100 NVMe SSD, an ASUS TUF RTX 5080, the Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 case, and a 1000 W Gold-rated modular power supply. The listed total is about $3,776, although the memory price appears unusually high and the kit is out of stock. I'm still learning about PC hardware—does this configuration make sense, and are there any parts I should reconsider?

For 3D rendering and game development, the overall direction is strong. Just double-check the memory listing before buying—the $880 price is almost certainly abnormal for a 64 GB DDR5-6000 kit. Look for another reputable 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit instead. Two terabytes may also fill up quickly once you install development tools, assets, source projects, and rendered files, so adding another SSD later could be worthwhile.

The main thing I’d verify is whether your rendering applications actually favor NVIDIA. In many professional tools, the RTX card’s CUDA and ray-tracing support can matter more than raw gaming performance.

The RTX 5080 is a sensible choice for this workload, especially if your rendering software benefits from CUDA or other NVIDIA-specific features. A Radeon 9070 XT could offer better value for gaming, but the lower price may not make up for the compatibility and rendering advantages of NVIDIA. Also, if you have access to a nearby computer retailer with bundle deals, check whether a higher-end CPU and motherboard bundle offers better value.

One consideration is platform timing. A newer CPU generation may be arriving within the next few months, so if you don’t need the system immediately, it could be worth waiting to compare performance and pricing. If you are buying now, the 1000 W power supply provides plenty of headroom, but make sure it has the appropriate modern GPU power connector and that the case supports the radiator and graphics card dimensions.
