I accidentally spilled watermelon juice on my computer and didn't notice until the system froze. I tried shutting it down with the case power button, but it didn't respond, so I eventually switched off the power at the back. The next morning it started up again, but the power button still wouldn't shut it down. I've now removed the components and noticed liquid stains on the motherboard, including some on the underside, although the spill didn't appear extensive. What's the safest way to clean the affected parts? Should I use distilled water, isopropyl alcohol, or a soft brush?

Do not open or attempt to clean the power supply. If there’s any possibility that juice entered it, replace the PSU rather than taking the risk. A contaminated power supply can be dangerous and may damage other components. Also keep in mind that corrosion can continue even after cleaning, so some parts may still fail later.
The power button itself may have liquid inside it, which could explain why it stopped responding. Once it’s completely disconnected, cleaning or replacing the button assembly may help, but the motherboard and other components should be the priority. Don’t reconnect power until every affected part is visibly clean and fully dry.
Stop powering it on for now. Each attempt can cause more damage while juice residue or moisture is still present. Disconnect everything, remove the CMOS battery, and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge remaining power. Clean the motherboard with a soft plastic-bristled brush and isopropyl alcohol, then let it dry thoroughly with a fan for several days before testing it again. Distilled water can work for rinsing, but only if you can dry the parts completely afterward.
Watermelon juice leaves sugars and other residue behind, so simply letting the computer dry isn’t enough. Carefully disassemble the affected components and rinse or scrub the residue away with 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol. A medium-soft toothbrush or similar nonmetal brush is suitable. Higher-concentration alcohol dries faster, but 70% can give you more time to lift the residue before drying. Keep liquid away from fans, labels, and connectors where possible.
