iPhone 14 Pro Max Returned With Display Separating After Battery Replacement Request—How Should I Escalate?

I submitted my iPhone 14 Pro Max to Aptronix, an Apple Authorised Service Provider in Visakhapatnam, India, on August 8 for a battery replacement. The signed intake job sheet described the phone's physical condition as normal, and I did not request any display or touch-assembly work. Afterward, the service centre said the display was separating and warned that replacing the battery could cause display problems. They later showed me photographs dated around August 12 and are treating the separation as a pre-existing condition. They have quoted approximately ₹40,000 for a display replacement. Since the intake documentation did not record any display separation, should I formally request the original intake photographs, technician inspection notes, and all service records from August 8 before escalating the matter to Apple or pursuing a consumer complaint?

Escalate through Apple’s official support channels and provide the signed job sheet, the later photographs, the quoted repair cost, and a clear timeline. Ask Apple to review whether the service provider’s handling and documentation were appropriate. If the provider refuses to address the discrepancy, you can also consider India’s consumer grievance process, but make sure your evidence is organised first.

The signed intake assessment is important evidence. If the display separation was visible when the phone was accepted, the service centre should normally have recorded it on the job sheet or documented it with intake photos. Ask in writing for copies of every intake photograph, inspection note, diagnostic result, and work-order update from August 8. Keep the original paperwork, photographs, and all messages, and avoid approving or paying for the display replacement until the dispute is reviewed.

That makes sense. I’m preserving the paperwork and communications, and I’ll request the complete intake and technician records in writing before taking the issue further.
