Is a £1,500 PC enough to match the Xbox Series X at 4K and 60 FPS?

I'm considering switching from an Xbox Series X to a gaming PC and have a budget of around £1,500 in the UK, although I could spend a little more if necessary. I'm comfortable either building the system myself or buying it pre-built. Ideally, I'd like the transition to feel seamless, with performance close to what I'm used to: around 4K at 60 FPS. I'll use my TV as the display to keep costs down, and I'm also interested in games such as Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, including their modding communities. I'm willing to accept a lower resolution if needed, but I'd like to understand whether my expectations are realistic before buying anything.

You probably don’t need to spend the full £1,500. A well-chosen mid-to-upper-range build should meet or exceed the Series X experience, especially if you’re happy to use upscaling or adjust a few settings. The final cost will depend on whether the budget also needs to cover Windows, peripherals, and storage.

A current build using something around an RX 9070-class graphics card, a solid Core i5 or Ryzen 5 processor, 16–32 GB of RAM, and a suitable motherboard should be plenty for your goals. It’s worth comparing several UK retailers and complete builds rather than choosing parts solely by their headline specifications. Make sure the graphics card has the right outputs for your TV and that the system includes fast SSD storage.

The Series X often uses dynamic resolution and upscaling rather than rendering every game at native 4K. A modern graphics card paired with a capable mid-range processor should give you a comparable experience, and a £1,500 budget is more than reasonable for that target. For demanding games like Cyberpunk, expect to use upscaling and possibly reduce ray tracing or a few ultra settings to stay near 60 FPS.
