I accidentally broke the plastic retention clip on my motherboard's PCIe slot while removing the graphics card. The GPU is fully seated, secured to the case with its normal screws, and has continued working without any problems for several years. My PC rarely moves and will probably stay in the same place for a long time. Should I leave it alone, or would adding a GPU support stand help prevent sag without putting stress on the card or motherboard?

Older PCIe and expansion slots often didn’t have retention clips at all, and cards still worked reliably. Since yours has already operated for years, leaving it alone is safer than trying to modify the slot. Just be careful when moving the PC, because the clip no longer provides extra protection against the card sliding out.
If the GPU is fully seated, screwed securely into the case, and the computer isn’t being moved, the broken clip generally isn’t a concern. The slot and case bracket provide most of the support in normal use, so there’s no need to repair or replace the clip just because it’s missing.
A GPU support bracket or stand is fine if the card is large or noticeably sagging, but it’s optional here. Don’t use it to lift the GPU upward—just adjust it so it gently supports the card at its natural resting height. Setting the case on its side while positioning the stand can make that easier.
