I'm considering building a gaming PC around late 2027 with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an RTX 4070 Ti Super. For 1440p gaming at very high or maximum settings—especially whenever GTA 6 eventually reaches PC—would basic DDR5-4800 memory be sufficient, or would DDR5-5600 or DDR5-6000 be worth paying extra for? I'm mainly interested in real-world gaming performance, including frame rates and 1% lows.

X3D processors are generally less sensitive to memory speed than standard CPUs because their large cache reduces how often they need to access system RAM. DDR5-4800 can run games quite well, and the difference between 4800 and 5200 may be hard to notice outside benchmarks. DDR5-5600 or 6000 can still improve performance somewhat, particularly CPU-limited frame rates and 1% lows, but the gain is usually modest with an X3D chip.
If the price difference is small, DDR5-6000 with a reasonable latency and an EXPO profile is usually the sensible choice for AM5. It tends to be a good performance and compatibility target without costing much more. DDR5-5600 is also perfectly reasonable, while DDR5-4800 is acceptable if it’s substantially cheaper.
Don’t overspend on memory just to chase benchmark numbers. With a 4070 Ti Super at 1440p, you’ll often be limited by the GPU, especially at maximum settings, so RAM speed may not change average FPS much. If you choose DDR5-4800, you should still have a good gaming experience; just compare actual kit prices when you buy, since slower memory isn’t always meaningfully cheaper.
For a purchase that far away, I wouldn’t make a decision based on today’s exact parts or game requirements. Prices, availability, and the CPU market will be very different by late 2027, and the 7800X3D may no longer be the best option by then. There also aren’t confirmed PC requirements for GTA 6 yet, so nobody can reliably promise what hardware will run it at 1440p max settings.
Historically, major releases have often arrived on PC after the console version and may have higher recommended specs. It would be worth checking the actual requirements once the PC release is announced rather than planning around them years in advance.
The real-world difference is also affected by the rest of the platform. Moving from an older DDR4 system to a newer AM5 system isn’t a fair comparison of memory speed alone, since the CPU and platform change contributes a lot.
