I'm currently using a gaming PC with an Intel i5-12400F, an MSI RTX 4060, and 16GB of RAM. I mostly play at 1080p on a 75Hz monitor, where performance has been fine, but newer games are starting to use nearly all of my memory. Should I upgrade anything now, and if so, would adding more DDR4 RAM be the best place to start?

The most sensible upgrade would probably be moving to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. It should help with newer games, background applications, and overall smoothness without requiring a full platform upgrade. Just make sure you match your motherboard’s supported speed and buy a reasonably priced 2x16GB kit.
Your RTX 4060 and i5-12400F are a good match for 1080p. A graphics card upgrade would make more sense if you move to 1440p or want substantially higher frame rates, but it would be excessive for a 75Hz 1080p monitor right now.
Before upgrading internal components, you could consider a higher-refresh monitor if you want the games to feel smoother. Otherwise, keep the current setup and upgrade only when a particular game or workload actually gives you trouble.
If your games are running well and you’re happy with the frame rates, there’s no urgent reason to upgrade. Your current setup is still well suited to 1080p gaming, especially with a 75Hz display.
That’s mostly how I feel too, although newer games are definitely getting close to maxing out the 16GB of RAM.
I’m in the UK, so I’ll compare prices on a few 32GB DDR4 kits before buying.
