Where I live, the Radeon RX 9070 costs about $549.99, while the RX 9070 XT is around $800. The performance gap is fairly clear, but I'm wondering which card offers better long-term value. I mainly want to know whether the XT's extra performance and memory are worth paying roughly 45% more, especially for 1440p versus 4K gaming.

At those prices, the regular RX 9070 is probably the better value. The XT is roughly 30% faster, but it costs about 45% more, so the performance-per-dollar isn’t as good. The XT makes more sense for 4K or if you want to hold higher frame rates for longer. For 1440p, the RX 9070 should be the smarter buy unless you have room in the budget and don’t need to compromise elsewhere.
The XT does have meaningful hardware advantages: more compute units and 16GB of VRAM compared with the non-XT model’s 12GB. That extra memory could help with demanding games and future titles, but $250 is still a large premium. At $550, the RX 9070 is a strong deal; I’d only choose the XT if you’re specifically targeting 4K, high refresh rates, or maximum settings.
It’s also worth checking the price of the standard RX 9070 if you can find one. If it’s around $650 or less, that would likely be the sweet spot between the two. Your choice should ultimately depend on the games you play, resolution, and the frame rate you consider acceptable—also check 1% lows, since average FPS alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

I’ve had trouble finding the regular RX 9070 locally, so the choice may realistically be between the RX 9070 GRE at $549.99 and the RX 9070 XT at $800.
