I'm building a PC and have narrowed the GPU choice to the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RTX 5070. My main goal is longevity: I'd like to play AAA games at 1440p and around 60 FPS or higher for the next five or six years. I'm not especially sensitive to frame rates above 60 FPS, and I care more about stable performance than maxing out graphics settings or using ray tracing. I'm comfortable using DLSS, frame generation, and occasionally lowering settings if necessary.
I usually buy games well after launch, often when they're discounted, so I may not need to run every new release immediately. The RTX 5070 has roughly 20–30% more raw performance, but only 12GB of VRAM, while the RTX 5060 Ti has 16GB. Since I probably won't be able to upgrade for several years, would the extra VRAM make the 5060 Ti a better long-term choice, or is the 5070's higher performance more important? I'm also open to an AMD card if its upscaling and frame-generation features are comparable.

The practical choice depends on your prices. If the 5070 is only moderately more expensive, I’d choose it for the higher performance. If the 5060 Ti is significantly cheaper and 16GB is important for your expected games, it can still be a sensible 1440p card. Just don’t expect either GPU to maintain high settings at 60 FPS in every AAA game five or six years from now.
The 16GB RTX 5060 Ti has a reasonable longevity argument. VRAM requirements are likely to increase, and 12GB could become a limitation in some future AAA games, especially with high-resolution textures. You should still reach 60 FPS in many games, but the 5060 Ti will need lower settings sooner because its core performance is substantially weaker. If you prioritize avoiding a VRAM limit over higher frame rates today, the 5060 Ti is the safer bet.
I’d lean toward the RTX 5070. The extra performance matters more immediately, and 12GB is generally workable for 1440p if you’re willing to reduce texture quality later. The 5060 Ti’s extra VRAM does not automatically make it faster once a game becomes demanding. Over five or six years, either card will probably require upscaling, dynamic resolution, and occasionally lower settings.
I’d also compare the AMD RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT if pricing and availability are reasonable where you live. They offer more VRAM and stronger raster performance than the RTX 5070, though Nvidia generally has an advantage in ray tracing and its software features. AMD’s upscaling and frame-generation options are usable, but if you already strongly prefer DLSS, that may be worth factoring into the decision.
