I'm replacing my longtime 8700K system and considering a Micro Center bundle. I already own a 4070 Super, so I'm mainly budgeting for the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. I want to play at 1440p with very high settings and ideally stay above 120 FPS when possible. My main game is WoW, including WoW Forever when it launches, but I also play Battlefield 6 and want enough performance for future games.
The two bundles I'm comparing are:
• Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte X870 Gaming WiFi6, and 32GB DDR5-6000 for $760
• Ryzen 7 9850X3D, ASUS B850E TUF Gaming WiFi6E, and 32GB DDR5-6000 for $920
I'm not especially concerned about upgrading the motherboard later, since I'd probably build an entirely new system when the CPU eventually becomes outdated. Is the 9850X3D worth paying an extra $160 for, particularly for WoW, or would the 7800X3D be the smarter value with a 4070 Super?

The B850E board is not automatically worse than the X870 option. X870 mainly gives you additional connectivity and PCIe resources, which matter if you plan to use several expansion cards or storage devices. For a normal gaming build, a decent B650, B850, or B850E board is generally enough, so I wouldn’t pay extra for X870 solely because of its name.
WoW is one of the cases where an X3D processor can be especially useful, since the extra cache can improve frame-time consistency and reduce occasional stutters. If the 9850X3D fits comfortably into your budget and you plan to keep the system for many years, it’s a reasonable luxury purchase, but it still won’t transform performance with a 4070 Super at 1440p.
Before choosing the X870 bundle, check the exact motherboard’s power delivery and reviews rather than assuming it is the higher-quality option. Some boards with the X870 label have fairly modest VRMs and can run hot under heavier loads. The B850E board may actually be the stronger motherboard, while the CPU choice is the main performance decision here.
The cheaper 7800X3D bundle is probably the better value. At 1440p with a 4070 Super, most demanding games will be limited by the GPU, so the newer CPU may not provide a noticeable difference at high or ultra settings. The 7800X3D is already more than capable for gaming and should handle WoW extremely well.
