Is the Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT worth upgrading my PSU for over the Pulse?

I'm planning to replace my RTX 3070 Ti because its 8GB of VRAM is starting to feel limiting. I'm deciding between the RTX 5070 Ti and Radeon RX 9070 XT, but the 9070 XT is considerably better priced, so that's probably what I'll choose. My main dilemma is which Sapphire model to buy. I currently have a Corsair RM750x, while Sapphire lists a 750W minimum for the Pulse and 850W for the Nitro+. I would rather not replace my power supply just to get the Nitro+, especially since I've heard concerns about the Pulse's fan curve and possible coil whine. My CPU is an Intel Core i7-12700. Is the Nitro+'s cooling and factory overclock substantially better, or would the Pulse be the sensible choice with my existing 750W PSU?

You could also consider models from XFX or PowerColor, but the Pulse is perfectly reasonable. I have one and haven't had any complaints. If the default fan behavior bothers you, you can adjust the fan curve yourself with software such as Fan Control, so that concern wouldn't stop me from choosing it.

The RX 9070 XT and RTX 3070 Ti are in a fairly similar power range, so a quality 750W unit is generally adequate. The Nitro+'s higher recommendation is more about that particular model and giving extra headroom than an indication that every 9070 XT needs an 850W PSU.

That makes sense. I know the general recommendation is 750W, but Sapphire lists 850W specifically for the Nitro+, which was what made me hesitate. I’m leaning toward the Pulse now.

I'd go with the least expensive model that meets your needs. A good-quality 750W power supply should be fine for any RX 9070 XT, unless the rest of the system includes an unusually power-hungry CPU. I'd also be cautious about the Nitro+ because it uses the newer 12V-2x6-style power connector. With an i7-12700, your current PSU should be sufficient for the Pulse.

That clears things up. I was mainly concerned because Sapphire specifically lists 850W for the Nitro+, but with the i7-12700 and my RM750x, the Pulse sounds like the safer and more practical choice.
