Is This $1,600 PC Build a Good Choice for 1440p Gaming?

I'm planning a gaming PC around a $1,600 budget and would appreciate some feedback before buying. The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, motherboard, and 32GB of DDR5 memory come as a bundle from a local computer retailer. The rest of the build includes an open-box Radeon RX 9070 XT, a 1TB SSD, and a 750W power supply.

I'll mainly play story-driven AAA games at 1440p, along with Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft. I'm trying to get the best price-to-performance ratio possible without spending more unless the upgrade is genuinely worthwhile.

Is the RX 9070 XT still a good deal at about $700 as an open-box card? Is the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus a sensible match for it, and is a 750W PSU sufficient? Would you change anything in this build?

The price doesn’t look unreasonable for the parts included. It may also be worth checking used systems locally, since people sometimes sell complete PCs with stronger components for roughly the same money. Just make sure you can verify the system works properly and identify the exact power supply and other parts before buying.

A similar system with a lower-tier Core Ultra 5 processor can handle 1440p very well in most games. CPU bottlenecks tend to show up more in unusually CPU-heavy titles such as Escape from Tarkov or Arma Reforger. For typical AAA games, the RX 9070 XT should be an excellent match, especially with the graphics settings turned up.

That’s helpful to hear. I was mostly worried that a lower-end processor might make 1440p gaming feel laggy, but it sounds like the graphics card should handle it well.

You could also compare the total against a prebuilt with a Core Ultra 7 265F and an RTX 5070. Some prebuilts may cost less, although you might need to add another 16GB memory module later. For the games you mentioned, 32GB is preferable, but 16GB can still be usable depending on the game and background programs.

That looks like a strong 1440p gaming system for the money. The 750W power supply should be adequate, assuming it’s a reputable model, and the 250K Plus should be enough for the games you listed. A higher-end 270K Plus could be considered if the price gap is small, but it isn’t necessary if it pushes you past budget. The open-box graphics card is worth considering at $700 if it includes a normal return policy and warranty, though I’d inspect it carefully and test it immediately.

The 270K Plus is unfortunately outside my budget. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the open-box 9070 XT is still worthwhile at around $700.
