I'm planning to replace my PC after about eight years. I mainly play anime-style games from Hoyoverse at 1600×900 in a window with low settings, but I also occasionally run a virtual machine for development work. The proposed build costs roughly USD 1,921 equivalent: Ryzen 7 7700, ASUS TUF B850M-Plus WiFi 7, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120, 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30, 1TB Crucial T500 Pro NVMe SSD, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, a 650W Bronze modular PSU, and a Cooler Master micro-ATX case with three fans. Is this reasonably priced for the parts, or is it significantly more powerful than I need? Would you recommend changing anything for gaming and occasional VM-based programming?

At 1600×900 and low settings, this is much more powerful than necessary for your games. The RTX 5060 Ti should handle them easily, but spending nearly $2,000 makes more sense only if the PC is also intended for heavier development, several virtual machines, content creation, or a future high-resolution monitor. A less expensive GPU and possibly a cheaper platform would likely give you the same experience.
The Ryzen 7 7700 is a solid general-purpose processor, but it may be more CPU than you need for light development and occasional VM use. You could save money with a lower-tier processor while keeping good gaming performance. If your virtual machines are more than occasional or you run multiple ones at once, spending the savings on 64GB of RAM would be more useful than a high-end motherboard or extra gaming performance.
The parts are broadly compatible and the 650W power supply should be adequate for this class of system, assuming it’s a decent-quality unit. I’d pay close attention to the local prices, though: nearly $1,921 sounds difficult to justify for a 900p gaming system. Compare the cost of each component separately, and consider a cheaper motherboard, case, SSD, or graphics card. Those changes should reduce the total without noticeably affecting your current use.
The AM5 platform does give you a future CPU upgrade path, so keeping it can be worthwhile if you expect to use the computer for many years. I just wouldn’t spend heavily on premium motherboard features that you don’t actually need.

I do still need a proper PC for programming, and I prefer playing on a larger monitor rather than my phone, so I’m not looking for a console-only solution.
