Is this $2,000 1440p/360Hz gaming PC build good value?

I'm putting together my first gaming PC in the USA with a roughly $2,000 budget, though I can stretch a little if the upgrade is worthwhile. My goal is stable high-refresh gaming at 1440p for CS2, Valorant, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, and Arc Raiders. I'd like to make good use of a 1440p 165Hz-or-faster display, ideally reaching around 360 FPS in competitive titles.

Current parts list:
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D and MSI B850 Gaming Pro WiFi6E with 32GB DDR5-6000 CL36 — Micro Center bundle for about $880
- PNY GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB — listed at $700
- Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE — $31.41
- Netac NV7000-t 2TB NVMe SSD — $280
- Corsair RM750e 750W Gold power supply — $90
- Fractal North Momentum Edition case — $143.99
- Three Arctic P12 Pro fans — $19.17

The listed total is $2,144.57. I'm also considering an ASUS ROG Strix 26.5-inch 1440p QD-OLED 360Hz monitor and a basic surge protector.

Are there any parts I should replace for better value or reliability? Is buying anything used worthwhile, and are there any compatibility or performance concerns I should know about before ordering? Brutal honesty is welcome since this is my first build.

The 9800X3D should be excellent for high frame rates in Fortnite, Valorant, CS2, and similar games. The 5070 Ti or 9070 XT should also have no trouble driving very high FPS in competitive settings, but a locked 360 FPS at 1440p in every listed game—especially newer or more demanding titles—can’t be guaranteed. Low settings, upscaling, and the game’s current optimization will matter a lot. CL36 memory is not a dealbreaker with this CPU; CL30 would be a minor optimization, not a necessary upgrade.

That makes sense. I’m mainly chasing high and consistent frame rates in the competitive games, not expecting every demanding title to sit at 360 FPS on maximum settings.

You probably don’t need to buy second hand with this budget. Newer CPUs and graphics cards are often scarce on the used market, and used listings can be close enough to retail pricing that the warranty savings aren’t worth the risk. Used cases, fans, or older storage can be fine if you inspect them carefully, but I’d buy the CPU, GPU, motherboard, RAM, SSD, and power supply new unless the discount is significant and you can verify the seller.

The biggest issue is the graphics-card price. A 5070 Ti at $700 would be an unusually good deal, so verify that the listing is legitimate and that the price won’t change after checkout. If it’s actually closer to $1,000 or more, an RX 9070 XT around the $700 range may offer similar gaming performance and much better value. The 9800X3D is a strong choice for competitive games, and the cooler is perfectly reasonable, although a Phantom Spirit is often the better-value alternative.

I’d also replace the $280 Netac SSD with a more established model from a manufacturer such as WD, SanDisk, Samsung, Crucial, or Solidigm. That price is especially high for a 2TB drive. An 850W power supply would give the system more headroom; models such as the ASRock Steel Legend or Montech Century are worth comparing. The 750W unit may work, but don’t overpay for it if a better-reviewed 850W option costs about the same.

The ASRock Steel Legend 850W is probably the stronger value among those suggestions, though the Montech is still a reasonable option if it’s substantially cheaper.

The case and extra fans are easy places to save money. Consider a case with a better airflow layout and included fans, such as a Lancool 207/217 or Phanteks XT Pro Ultra. You may not need three additional fans at all. Put the savings toward the GPU, a higher-quality SSD, or the display instead.

A 1440p 360Hz QD-OLED is a premium choice, but make sure you actually value the refresh rate and OLED image quality before spending that much. OLED concerns such as burn-in risk, text fringing, and the coating’s appearance are real trade-offs, even though many owners are perfectly happy with them. A good IPS or mini-LED display can be considerably cheaper and may be more practical if you play a lot of desktop or static-content games. At very high frame rates, the difference above roughly 150–200 FPS is subtle for many people, so the monitor should be chosen based on motion clarity and personal preference rather than benchmark numbers alone.

OLED panels aren’t automatically a bad choice. The drawbacks are worth considering, but burn-in protections and warranty coverage have improved, so this is more about tolerance for the trade-offs than a reason to avoid the technology entirely.
