Is This a Good Value PC Upgrade for Older and Modern Games?

I'm upgrading my PC using a mix of new and existing parts and would appreciate advice on compatibility, value, and whether I should buy now or wait. I currently have an ASUS RX 550 4GB, an Intel Core i5-4590, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a basic 550W power supply, an office case, a 500GB SSD, and a 2TB hard drive. The only cooler I have is the CPU cooler.

The planned new parts are an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for 150 BAM, a Gigabyte B550M AORUS ELITE AX motherboard for 200 BAM, 16GB of ADATA XPG Spectrix D50 DDR4-3600 RAM for 160 BAM, and a DarkFlash AIGO C195 Mesh Micro-ATX case with four ARGB fans for 90 BAM. Everything being purchased is brand new, while the RX 550, storage, and power supply are being reused.

The total is about 610 BAM, or roughly $350, in the Bosnian market. Is this a sensible upgrade for the money, or should I change any parts, negotiate harder, wait, or prioritize a graphics card upgrade?

This should be fine for older games and a backlog from the 2010s. The Ryzen system will be a major improvement over the old i5, but the RX 550 will still be the main limitation. Don’t expect good performance in newer games unless you use low settings, probably at 1080p.

That makes sense. If I upgrade the graphics card later, would this platform be able to handle a stronger GPU?

A Ryzen 7 5800X3D would be a much stronger gaming processor, but it is far outside this budget in your local market. The Ryzen 5 3600 is a more realistic choice for a $350 upgrade, especially if you plan to replace the RX 550 later.

The 5800X3D would cost around $350 more here, so it isn’t realistic for this build.

Since the parts are coming from one store, try negotiating the package price. Even a small discount could make the upgrade more worthwhile, and it may leave some room in the budget for a better graphics card or a more trustworthy power supply.
