Is This Gigabyte B760M Motherboard Defective? RAM Channels and VGA Errors

I'm troubleshooting a Gigabyte B760M DDR4 X Gaming motherboard that appears to have multiple problems. RAM slots 1 and 2 consistently trigger the CPU/DRAM debug light, while slots 3 and 4 work. I tested every memory stick individually, so the issue doesn't seem to be a bad DIMM. I also tried different cooler pressure levels in case the motherboard was flexing, and tested various slot combinations without success.

When I continued using the board with 12 GB installed, it began showing the VGA debug light as well. This happens even with the integrated graphics on my i7-13700K, and I also tested both PCIe slots. The CPU works normally in my older motherboard, and the socket pins on this board look undamaged.

I also attempted a BIOS flash. The USB drive is FAT32-formatted, the BIOS file was renamed to GIGABYTE.bin, and I used the expected procedure, but the indicator only blinks for about five seconds before stopping instead of completing the several-minute update. Does this point to a defective motherboard, or is there another diagnostic step I should try?

For a BIOS recovery flash, verify the exact motherboard model and revision, use the BIOS file intended for that revision, and plug the FAT32 USB drive into the dedicated BIOS/Q-Flash Plus USB port. The board usually needs the 24-pin and CPU power connectors connected, while the CPU, RAM, and graphics card should be removed if the manual specifies that procedure. A five-second blink followed by no activity usually means the file, port, drive format, or board revision was not accepted. If all of those details are correct and it still refuses to flash, that further supports an exchange or warranty claim.

Since the CPU and memory work correctly in the older board, the new motherboard is the main suspect. A dead memory channel can sometimes be caused by socket contact or CPU seating, but if the socket is truly clean and the CPU behaves normally elsewhere, the board may have a damaged DIMM trace or memory channel. The VGA light may be a separate board or firmware problem rather than an issue with the integrated GPU.

I already checked the socket closely and tested the cooler with different pressure. The CPU works perfectly in the other motherboard, so I’m leaning toward returning this one.
