Is This PC Enough for 1440p Gaming Long-Term?

I mainly game at 2560×1440 on a 240Hz monitor and want to know whether any part of my current system is worth upgrading for better long-term performance. My build includes a Ryzen 5 7600X, PNY RTX 5070 RGB OC, MSI B840 Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard, 32GB DDR5-6000 RAM, a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD, a 1TB Kingston SSD, and an MSI MAG A850GL 850W power supply. Should I upgrade the CPU or GPU now, or leave the system as it is for a few years?

No PC can truly be future-proof. New rendering features and increasingly demanding games will eventually change what hardware is needed. Realistically, this build should be very comfortable for 1440p for the next few years, so waiting three or four years for a larger performance jump is likely better than spending money on a small upgrade today.

For a noticeable gaming upgrade, the CPU would be the more sensible place to look later. A Ryzen 7 7800X3D—or a future compatible 3D V-Cache chip—could improve high-refresh-rate performance and minimum FPS, but the 7600X is still perfectly capable at 1440p. There’s no urgent reason to change it now.

The main long-term concern is the GPU’s 12GB of VRAM, especially in demanding games with high-resolution textures or ray tracing. If you were buying today specifically for longevity, a 16GB card such as a 5070 Ti or Radeon 9070 XT could make more sense. That said, replacing the 5070 immediately probably isn’t good value unless you’re already running into performance or VRAM limits.

You’re already in a strong position for 1440p. The RTX 5070 should handle current games well, and there isn’t an upgrade you really need right now. I’d keep using the system and reassess when newer games start causing problems rather than upgrading just to make it more “future-proof.”
