I finally received a new credit card with a 15% cashback promotion and planned to use it toward a new GPU. While checking prices before buying from Memory Express, I found a PNY GeForce RTX 5080 16GB listed at around $300 less than the cheapest comparable card elsewhere and roughly $400 below most other options. I've never thought of Best Buy as especially competitive on PC hardware, so I'm wondering whether PNY is a brand to avoid or if there's a catch with this particular model or series. Is the lower price mainly due to branding, or should I be concerned about quality, cooling, performance, or warranty support?

PNY is a legitimate NVIDIA board partner with a long history. Their cards may be less heavily marketed than ASUS, MSI, or Gigabyte, but they’re not a sketchy brand. If the price and return policy are good, there’s no obvious reason to avoid this card.
The one practical downside may be warranty service. Depending on where you live, PNY warranty claims could require shipping the card to the United States, while some other manufacturers have Canadian RMA facilities. That doesn’t make the card bad, but it’s worth checking before purchasing.
PNY also produces professional NVIDIA workstation cards, so they’re definitely an established company. I’ve used a PNY card for more than a year without any problems. The main thing I’d check is the exact cooler and the retailer’s return policy.
The lower price is probably more about PNY being less popular and less focused on premium branding than anything being wrong with the GPU. Just compare the cooler reviews, dimensions, power connector requirements, and warranty terms before keeping it.
They’re generally considered a budget-oriented but reputable manufacturer. You usually get essentially the same GPU performance as the more expensive brands; the differences are more likely to be the cooler, noise levels, appearance, and included extras. For a normal gaming PC, PNY should be perfectly fine.
