I built an AM5 system with a Ryzen 9 7900X as a temporary processor and am considering replacing it with a Ryzen 9 9900X3D. The system also has an RTX 5070 Ti and 6400 MHz memory. Given the rest of the hardware, would the extra 3D V-Cache provide a noticeable gaming improvement, or would the upgrade be difficult to justify?

The 9900X3D would improve performance in some games, but the difference probably won’t be noticeable across the board with a 5070 Ti. The biggest gains tend to appear in CPU-limited games that benefit strongly from extra V-Cache, while GPU-limited games may perform almost identically. It may be better to keep the 7900X until you can identify a specific game or workload where the upgrade makes a meaningful difference.

Games such as Cities: Skylines 2 can be heavily CPU-limited, so extra cache might help in certain situations, but the benefit depends on the workload and settings. For Tempest Rising, there isn’t enough general evidence to assume a major V-Cache advantage.
