Laptop shuts down unexpectedly and won’t restart until it cools down

My ASUS G16 suddenly powers off without showing a blue screen. If I press the power button right away, the keyboard and RGB lights turn on briefly, then the laptop shuts off again. After waiting around 30 minutes to an hour, it will boot normally, but it usually powers off again after about 30 minutes. Event Viewer doesn't show any obvious error codes. What could be causing this, and how can I troubleshoot it?

Since it turns on briefly and then cuts off, the system may be detecting a hardware or power fault rather than a Windows crash. Try booting into the BIOS and leaving it there for a while. If it still shuts down outside Windows, that points to cooling, the battery, charger, motherboard, or another hardware issue. If you’re comfortable opening it, inspect the fans and remove dust; otherwise, have a repair shop test it before continuing to use it.

That pattern strongly suggests overheating or a power-protection shutdown. A clogged heatsink, failing fan, dried-out thermal paste, or a faulty power component could make the laptop shut down and refuse to start until it cools. Check whether both fans are spinning, clean the vents and heatsinks, and monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while it’s running. Avoid using it for demanding tasks until you find the cause, since repeated thermal shutdowns can damage components.
