Linux installation has been stuck for over five hours—what should I check?

I'm trying to install Linux, but the process has appeared frozen for more than five hours. The terminal still shows that the last completed step happened over five hours ago, although the progress indicator makes it look like something might still be running. Is this normal, or has the installation stalled? What information should I check and what would be the best way to fix it?

More details are needed to diagnose this properly. The Linux distribution and the exact installation method matter, and the screenshot alone may not show which step is stuck. In general, five hours without any change is not expected, so check the installer logs or terminal output and consider restarting with a freshly created installation drive.

Something is probably wrong, since an installation step normally shouldn’t sit unchanged for that long. A good first step would be to recreate the installation USB with a different tool, such as balenaEtcher, and then try the installation again. Also verify that the downloaded ISO matches its checksum if possible.

I’ll try recreating the USB with another tool. Thanks!
