Minecraft maintains a steady reported frame rate, but the game still freezes or stutters heavily, especially when looking around. I'm wondering whether this could be caused by high temperatures, faulty second-hand hardware, memory settings, or something else. Benchmarks appear normal, and the system is a new build with current drivers. I'm playing single-player, and the issue also happens in a fresh vanilla installation rather than only with mods or resource packs. My hardware is 32GB of KLEVV DDR5-6000 CL30, a Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT, and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Minecraft has also been assigned 10GB of RAM, and the monitor cable is connected directly to the graphics card.

Check temperatures and clock speeds during an actual stutter, but dried thermal paste alone usually wouldn’t cause this unless the CPU is overheating and throttling. Confirm that the 7800X3D is boosting normally, EXPO is stable, and the RAM is running at its intended speed. A memory stability test and BIOS/chipset update would also be worthwhile on a new AM5 build.
If you’re using Fabric or other mods, remove everything temporarily and launch an untouched vanilla version. Fabric itself isn’t automatically a problem, but mods, performance mods, resource packs, and incompatible versions can all cause hitching. Once vanilla is smooth, add things back one at a time. For modded play, use the recommended Java version and an appropriate memory allocation rather than endlessly increasing the RAM limit.
Since it happens in vanilla too, simply assigning more RAM probably isn’t the fix. Minecraft can stutter while the average FPS looks fine because of frame-time spikes, chunk generation, shader compilation, or Java garbage collection. Try a completely clean profile with default settings, then test different render and simulation distances. Also watch the frame-time graph rather than only the FPS counter.
Also verify the basics: make sure Minecraft is using the RX 9070 XT, not an unexpected graphics device, and try disabling overlays such as recording software or driver features. Monitor GPU usage, CPU per-core usage, temperatures, and frametimes while the hitch occurs. A benchmark can pass normally while a driver, Java, display-mode, or game-specific issue still causes stuttering.
Minecraft’s chunk loading can hitch when the world is generating new terrain or when you turn quickly toward a large build with lots of entities or redstone machinery. Lower render distance temporarily, keep simulation distance lower than render distance, and test in a freshly created world. If the problem only happens on one world or server, the world, mods, or server performance may be responsible rather than the GPU.

I tested vanilla as well and the stutters are still severe, even though the GPU and system memory stay under roughly 30% usage.
