Monitor audio stopped working across multiple devices and fresh Windows installs

My Acer XV272U monitor suddenly stopped producing audio through both HDMI and DisplayPort. The problem first appeared on my main Windows account, and after I disabled and re-enabled the monitor audio device in Device Manager, audio also stopped working on my secondary account. I then completely wiped the SSD and performed a fresh Windows 11 installation with all drivers installed, but the monitor still had no sound. I also tested the monitor with a laptop using both HDMI and DisplayPort, with the same result. The monitor volume is at 100%, mute is disabled, and I checked its input and audio settings. Does this point to a hardware failure in the monitor, or is there another software or driver issue I should investigate?

Since the monitor has the same problem when connected to a separate laptop, with both HDMI and DisplayPort, this is very unlikely to be caused by your Windows installation or PC drivers. Check the monitor's audio settings and try its headphone output if it has one, but the built-in speakers or audio circuitry are probably failing. Testing a live Linux USB can provide one final software check, though the cross-device result already points strongly to the monitor hardware.

The timing with the Windows account issue may just be coincidence. A completely clean Windows install plus testing on another computer rules out most driver and operating-system explanations. If the monitor has no sound from either connection and its volume is up with mute disabled, it likely needs repair or replacement.
