My old Apple account appears to have been compromised. The attacker changed the security questions, so I can no longer sign in or complete account recovery. They are using the account to purchase Chinese gift cards, and Apple Support has not been able to help so far. I have already canceled or frozen the payment card connected to the account. Is there any way to regain access, secure or delete the account, and stop further purchases?

Contact your card issuer immediately to cancel the card, dispute any unauthorized charges, and watch for additional transactions. Also change passwords for the email address connected to the Apple account and enable two-factor authentication wherever you still have access.
Call Apple Support and clearly explain that the account is being used for a gift-card scam and that the security questions were changed. You can also try Apple’s account-recovery page at iforgot.apple.com, especially if you still have access to a trusted device or phone number.
I already tried account recovery, but it keeps requiring the changed security questions. I don’t have another way to contact Apple directly.
Deleting the account usually requires verifying ownership first, so account recovery has to be resolved before deletion is likely possible. If you have any trusted Apple device still signed in, check whether it lets you change the password or add two-factor authentication; otherwise, keep working with Apple Support and your card provider to contain the damage.
I checked, but I don’t have a trusted device that lets me turn on two-factor authentication without logging in.

I froze the card after they took about €600, but I can’t enable two-factor authentication on the Apple account because I can’t sign in.
