My CPU is hitting 100°C while gaming – is that normal?

Hey everyone! I've been playing Red Dead Redemption, and I noticed that my Ryzen 7700x CPU is hitting 100°C, even though MSI Afterburner shows it's only under 40-50% load. I recently put in a Corsair H100 liquid cooler and just replaced the thermal paste, so I'm unsure what's going on. Is this temperature normal for this setup? Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you're hitting those temps, something's definitely off. I have the same CPU, and it never gets anywhere close to that while gaming. It's worth investigating your cooling setup more closely.

That temperature is definitely not normal. If your CPU is reaching 100°C, it might be thermal throttling. You could try removing the cooler and reapplying the thermal paste. Make sure there isn't any plastic cover still on the cooler—believe it or not, it happens more frequently than you'd think! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll give reapplying the thermal paste a shot.

It sounds like your AIO cooler might be struggling. Have you checked the pump position and the airflow in your case? Make sure the fans are running at the right speed and that the pump is mounted properly. Even thermal paste application can be a factor, so double-check that. Just seeing if any of this helps!

The fan setup should be good—3 intakes in the front and 2 exhaust on the radiator at the top. It seems like a solid airflow.
