I'm writing a fantasy story in Notepad, but when I try to close the program and choose Save, it briefly says the file was saved and then opens the Save dialog again. I've tried saving it in both Documents and on the Desktop, with the same result. For now I emailed a copy to myself as a backup, but I'd like to understand why Notepad keeps asking me to save.

That usually points to a problem with the file location, permissions, or the file itself. Try using Save As and give it a new name, making sure the filename ends in .txt. You could also save it to a simple folder such as C:Temp or another drive. If it still loops, copy all the text into a brand-new Notepad document and try saving that. Keep the emailed copy until you confirm the new file opens correctly.

I tried both Documents and the Desktop, and neither worked, so I’ll try creating a new file and saving it somewhere else. I’ll keep the emailed copy as a backup.
