These two graphics cards cost exactly the same where I live, and I'm trying to decide which is the better buy for gaming. I'm mainly considering upscaling support: the RX 6000 series has access to FSR features, while the RTX 3070 supports DLSS, though I'm not sure how useful the newer versions are without Frame Generation. I also like that FSR works across more hardware and games. Ray tracing isn't a priority for me because I rarely use it beyond trying it briefly. Which card would be the better choice for modern gaming?

The RTX 3070 has higher raw performance—roughly around 10–15% faster in many 1080p comparisons—and may be the better choice if you mostly play competitive games or stay at 1080p. At 1440p and in newer demanding games, the 6700 XT’s extra 4GB of VRAM is likely to matter more. Linux users may also prefer the AMD card because of its driver support.
For gaming only, I’d lean toward the RX 6700 XT. Its 12GB of VRAM is becoming increasingly useful in newer AAA games, especially at 1440p, while the RTX 3070’s 8GB can cause texture or stuttering issues. The 3070 is somewhat faster overall and has broader support for DLSS, but that advantage matters less if you have to lower settings because of its VRAM limit.
Keep in mind that the RX 6000 series doesn’t natively support the newest FSR features. Tools such as OptiScaler may let you experiment with them, but compatibility and performance can vary. DLSS is generally supported more consistently, and the 3070 also makes more sense if you need CUDA for work or other applications. For straightforward gaming without ray tracing or CUDA, though, the 6700 XT is the safer long-term pick.
