I'm putting together a PC with an Asus Prime case, Ryzen 5 7500X3D, MSI Pro B650M-VC motherboard, 32GB of Crucial DDR5, a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO, and a Corsair RM850W power supply. For the GPU, I can use either an 8GB RTX 4060 from an HP Omen system or an XFX Speedster SWFT RX 6700 with 10GB of VRAM. I plan to upgrade to a much newer graphics card later, so this only needs to be a temporary solution. My main target is 1440p gaming, including CS2, Battlefield 6, and single-player games such as Crimson Desert, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part I and II. The RTX 4060 appears to be slightly faster and more power-efficient, but I'm concerned that the OEM single-fan cooler may run hot and loud. The RX 6700 has more VRAM, so I'm wondering which card would be the better choice for this temporary setup.

The RTX 4060 is usually a little faster overall and has advantages such as DLSS, but the difference is fairly small. Its 8GB of VRAM is also more limiting for newer 1440p games. The single-fan OEM model will probably run hotter and louder than a normal dual-fan card, so unless you really value its lower power use or DLSS, the RX 6700 is the safer temporary choice.
A newer 16GB card would be a better long-term 1440p purchase, but since these are the cards you already have available and you plan to upgrade around Black Friday, I’d use the RX 6700. It should provide a more comfortable VRAM buffer, while the OEM 4060’s small cooler could make it unnecessarily noisy.
I agree. I’m only trying to make it through the next few months, so I’ll prioritize the extra VRAM and replace it with a 16GB card later.
For newer AAA games, 10GB is preferable to 8GB, especially if you use high textures or mods. Neither card is ideal for demanding 1440p settings, but the RX 6700 should age a bit better as a stopgap. Your 850W power supply is more than enough for either one.
In many comparisons, the RTX 4060 is only around 5–10% faster on average, and the result depends heavily on the game. At 1440p, the RX 6700 can match or slightly beat it in some rasterized games, while the 4060 pulls ahead when DLSS or ray tracing is involved. For standard gaming without relying on those features, the performance gap isn’t large enough to outweigh the RX 6700’s extra 2GB of VRAM.
