My younger sister's Samsung Galaxy phone is completely frozen on the Home screen. Restarting it several times hasn't helped, and I can't open Settings to reset it. A small lock icon appeared in the upper-left corner; the status text first showed "Searching" and later changed to the mobile data/Wi‑Fi indicator. The phone was managed through Family Link, but it was accidentally removed from my account while I was trying to reset it remotely. Is there anything I can try at home?

The lock symbol may indicate a device-management or lock-screen state, but a factory reset should remove ordinary software glitches. During setup, connect a USB mouse with a suitable USB-OTG adapter; if the pointer can press Start, the touchscreen is the likely failure. If the mouse also can’t operate the setup screen, the phone may have a deeper hardware problem.
If the phone is still frozen on the welcome screen even after a complete factory reset, this probably isn’t a Family Link or software-setting issue. The touchscreen digitizer may have failed, especially if the Start button and other parts of the display don’t respond. Try removing any screen protector and case, then force-restart it once more. If touch still doesn’t work, it will likely need Samsung or a repair shop to diagnose the screen or another hardware fault.
Try opening Samsung’s recovery menu and rebooting from there. With the phone powered off, hold Volume Up and Power until the Samsung logo appears, then use the volume buttons to select Recovery Mode and confirm with Power. If available, try Wipe cache partition first, then choose Reboot system now. A factory reset is the next step, but it permanently erases the phone’s photos, apps, and data. Also make sure you know the Google or Samsung account previously used on the device, since Factory Reset Protection may require it during setup.

I tried the recovery steps and performed a factory reset, but the same problem remains. The phone is now stuck on the welcome screen, the Start button doesn’t respond, and the lock icon is still visible.
