I wouldn’t purchase something unless you have a use for it within the next year or two. Prices can fall, newer hardware can offer better value, and unused electronics lose warranty time while sitting in a box. Your current machines already cover a lot of development work, so upgrade when you have a specific performance, storage, or reliability problem.

Instead of trying to guess future electronics prices, keep the money invested or saved and use it when you actually need the hardware. Prices may rise in some categories, but they can also drop as supply improves or newer generations arrive. The safest approach is to buy dependable equipment when it provides clear value, not simply because it might become more expensive later.

It’s impossible to predict which components will rise or fall in price, so buying extra hardware purely out of fear may not pay off. If you do buy, prioritize modular and repairable systems. Replaceable RAM, storage, batteries, and other standard parts can make a device cheaper to maintain over time than one with everything soldered in.

A good system can be worth buying when the price is reasonable and you expect to keep it for many years. However, paying above the original launch price for a used Mac mini is not automatically a bargain. Compare it with current models, check the warranty and condition, and make sure its performance or connectivity solves a real need before buying.
