I'm planning to pair a Radeon 9070 GRE with a gaming monitor and I'm deciding between a 1080p 240Hz display for about $120 and a 1440p 240Hz model for roughly $320. Is 240Hz actually worthwhile, and would 1440p be the better choice for this graphics card? I'm mainly weighing image sharpness, gaming performance, and whether the extra cost is justified.

Don’t judge the monitors by resolution alone. A good 1080p 165Hz or 240Hz IPS panel can be preferable to a slow 1440p VA display. Check the panel type, response times, motion clarity, adaptive sync support, HDR quality, and the actual prices before deciding.
I’d lean toward 1440p if you can comfortably afford it. The image is noticeably sharper than 1080p, and the 9070 GRE should handle 1440p gaming well. That said, 1080p will give you higher frame rates and more flexibility to use maximum graphics settings.
I’ve never really used a 1440p monitor, and prices are much higher where I live. The regular Radeon 9070 also costs around $333 more here, so upgrading to that doesn’t seem worthwhile.
For most people, 240Hz is mainly useful in competitive games where you can consistently push very high frame rates. If you mostly play single-player games, 1440p at 144Hz or 165Hz may offer a better balance of sharpness, smoothness, and price. The 9070 GRE is capable of driving 1440p well, but 1080p is the better choice if maximum FPS is your top priority.

The 1080p option is a 240Hz monitor for about $120, while the 1440p version is also 240Hz but costs roughly $320. I’m still trying to decide whether I’d actually notice or benefit from 240Hz.
