Should I Choose an AIO or a Phantom Spirit Air Cooler?

The reliability difference isn’t always dramatic. I had an AIO run for more than a decade without trouble, and some people prefer them because the larger radiator fans can stay quieter and avoid frequent ramping. Still, since your processor doesn’t need liquid cooling and the prices are similar, the air cooler is the safer practical choice unless you specifically want the AIO’s appearance or extra clearance around the socket.

The Phantom Spirit is more than capable here. Adding fans directly above the CPU cooler can sometimes work against the cooler’s own airflow, especially if the fans compete for the same intake air. Start with the case’s existing fans, add a rear exhaust if needed, and only fill the top positions if temperatures or airflow testing show a benefit.

Both options should keep the CPU well within safe temperatures, so this mostly comes down to preference. An AIO can look cleaner and may provide a little more cooling, but the advantage is usually small unless you’re pushing the CPU hard. Choose the AIO for aesthetics or extra radiator clearance; otherwise, choose the air cooler for simplicity.

I’ve used both, and tower coolers have been very dependable for me while I’ve had AIO pumps fail. The Phantom Spirit is also generally quiet because there’s no pump noise or liquid movement. You don’t necessarily need three top fans either—one rear exhaust and perhaps one top-rear exhaust may provide better airflow without adding unnecessary noise.

I’d go with the Phantom Spirit. A relatively inexpensive Thermalright air cooler performs extremely well, and you probably don’t need an AIO for this CPU. Air cooling is simpler, avoids pump and liquid-related failures, and is usually the better value.
